Keep an eye out for:Â
- Damaged Plants
- Overgrown Garden Beds
- Hardscaping elements such as walls, fences etc. that may have rotted or fallen over
- Evidence of pests
Start finding inspiration for any new plants/trees you may wish to plant as well as any renovations you plan to do. Pinterest has so many great ideas for fire pits, gardens & more!
Spring Gardening: Cleanup
Start cleaning up your garden! Clear our any dead leaves/debris from the soil surface. This is especially important as keeping good hygiene in the garden will keep diseases & pests away. Remove any protective winter mulch you may have put down.Â
Trim & prune fruit trees if you didn’t get around to it during winter. Ensure you prune before buds break & bloom otherwise you will stress the tree and end up with a tiny crop or nothing at all! Also a good time to prune any trees & shrubs that bloom in summer, before they push out new growth. Trim hedges to encourage new growth.
It is also great time to clear debris & clean any ponds/water features or bird baths.
Remember to wear gloves whilst pruning to protect your hands from cuts & scrapes.

Spring Gardening: Planting/Care
As your grass & garden starts to grow and flower, fertilising is essential. Feed all your plants, including your lawn to ensure they are in great health before summer. Blood & Bone as well as Dynamic Lifter are perfect all-round fertilisers. Throw a handful over every 4 square metres. Dig compost/manure through the veggie patch and soluable fertilisers to any vegetables you have planted. Potted plants will love a liquid fertiliser for a quick boost. Use specialised fertilisers for roses, citrus & orchids. See our fertiliser range here & what we recommend below.
It is especially important to plant any new trees or shrubs so that they can establish themselves before it starts to get hot.
To give your grass a headstart, get out a garden fork & aerate the lawn. In early spring, apply a weedkiller to remove any weeds or bindii. A few weeks later; follow up with a lawn fertiliser to keep the grass strong & prevent new weeds. If there is any bare patches you would like to grow, now is the time to prepare the lawn to grow grass from seed. This will give the lawn time to establish before summer.
One of the best ways to make your garden look polished is to add a fresh layer of mulch to garden beds. This will also help your soil retain moisture and help keep down weeds. Always buy a little more mulch than you think you need. Spread mulch evenly with gloved hands or a rake. Be careful not to lay it too thickly around plants.Â
